WordPress is SLOW

  • We’ve been working on a WordPress site for a while, as a side project for my Church. Today, I decided to finish up some content and I was stopped dead in my tracks. WordPress slowed to a crawl, then stopped responding altogether. None the other sites I’m hosting have this problem at all.

    I’ve seen a lot of other posts complaining about WP performance. Some people point to plug-ins being the problem – but I’ve removed all but one of them (that we unfortunately depend on). The site will still not come up – so I can’t even login as admin to see what might be wrong. Very frustrating.

    I’m step away from ditching the entire project and just coding everything up by hand. But before I do, maybe there are some magic pearls of wisdom someone can offer as to what might be wrong. This has been a tremendous waste of time and money – a huge disappointment. No “love lost” here, that’s for sure!

  • Are you using a specific theme?
    what’s the plugin?
    Are you on godaddy (found it brutally slow for wp)

    Right now, I can’t get in to examine the themes. Someone else did this a while back, so I’m not intimately familiar with what was done along those lines. The plugin is (i believe) some sort of flash component to display a slide show of images. I do suspect that might be responsible in part.

    My ISP is “IX Web Hosting”. They’ve indicated that there’s “something wrong” with the PHP setup on my account. So they’re looking into this. It sounds promising, because the types of problems I’ve been having are so severe… I can’t imagine it would just be a plugin.

    I’ll post an update with results.

    Thanks. As long as they provide measurement statistics in hours and days… we should be fine! No seconds or milliseconds to worry about here… ! <g>
