WordPress Instance incorrectly identified as being commercial

    I’m using Jetpack on this site. When I try to access various Jetpack stats I’m informed that WordPress considers the site commercial due to AdSense. Unless there is some artifact of AdSense in a plug-in or html I can’t see why it is identified as such.

    I can state with certainty that no ads, AdSense or otherwise, are being served from [ redundant link removed ]. It is a local community site that informs it’s readers of local goings-on and events of interest, purely on a non-profit basis. In fact, it is an expense that the owner incurs personally.

    Of course I’ve tried to re-verify the site via Jetpack several times, but to no avail. I would be very grateful if this could be exempted from any commercial criteria, since none exists, and has been that since it’s inception, 15+ years ago.

    We can see some scripts from Google Adsense in the site source page:

    For example, viewing the source for https://www.joeobrien.ie/2024/05/20/lanesboro-ballyleague-notes-monday-20th-may-2024/:

    If you haven’t joined the program I recommend removing those, so the system won’t flag your site as commercial.

    Hi Leah,

    Thank you so much for taking the time to check the source of my site and finding an (most likely “the”) offending item. I see it now, as plain as day. Now I just have to figure out where it’s coming from and removing it. This is a great help.

    And I found it. It was a code snippet in the header. I’ve removed it, and will empty the cache and try verification shortly.
