• Hello everybody.

I have an issue. I’ve searched and searched for a possible solution but can’t seem to figure this out.

I am running a multisite install of wordpress on my root domain. It was intitially a single site and switched over to multisite. Prior to converting the wordpress in the root to multisite, I had installed another single site installation on a directory.

After switching to multisite on installation in the root. The wordpress installation in the directory doesn’t seem accessible anymore. As soon as I type domain.com/directoryinstallation it goes to domain.com. Can a multisite installation on the root and single site installation in a directory coexist??

I am sure the solution is moving the directory installation into the multisite install as part of the network. But that will take some work, and also I am not sure if the plugins used in the directory install are multisite friendly. I’ve got a feeling it takes a simple line (or a few) in the roots .htaccess file to make these two coexist.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

That shouldn’t matter. I have a seperate WP install in a folder under my multisite, and it works just fine.

    Yes.

Is your multisite subfolder or subdomain?

    Then what is going on??

    My multisite is subdomain.

What’s the NAME of this second, separate, folder?

It may be conflicting (though it shouldn’t – REAL folders always trump WP’s virtual ones)

    separate folder is /hq/

and multisite is in root. I only have one other website besides the root (www.) and it’s not “hq” nor anywhere near it.

Do you have any pages named hq? Do you have any extra redirects in htaccess? Did you turn off all the plugins?

Most of all… Did this work BEFORE you activated multisite?

yes. I have lots of redirects in htaccess. Yes, turned off plugins.

It did work before I activated multisite. That’s why I think its a htaccess issue.

Rename the htaccess to disable it totally then.
