• I’m using the latest wordpress & whenever I’m trying to upload the xml document file (imported from my blog at wordpress.com), it shows me the error

“Before you can upload your import file, you will need to fix the following error:

Unable to create directory /…/…./…./wp-content/uploads/2011/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

I created the directory manually then it displays ‘Howdy! Upload your WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) file and we’ll import the posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags into this site.’

Then it allowed me to upload, I uploaded then received the following reply :

“Sorry, there has been an error.

The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/vhosts/worldocricket.orgfree.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01.”

Now what should I do, I’m in some sort of trouble. Hope, I’ll get the solution.

  • First of all make sure the upload folder and any subdirectory is able to fully write to the directory.

Also make sure your upload path settings are right as /home/vhosts/worldocricket.orgfree.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01 don’t seem right to me. Check this with your host and if you need too, you can edit that within the WordPress admin panel.

I created the directory myself with other name & set its path in the settings & now everything is working.
