    I need to know if you will be including full functionality to the WordPress Gallery with Gutenberg. We rely on that heavily because we have a lot of photography that we use it for.

    Will you be including all the features it comes with? Right now, it only gives us the option to display images in a row which is fine but we had more features.

    We also have plugins that give us added features that we enjoy like tiled galleries, and slideshows that have worked for years. The plugins work just fine with the classic editor plugin, so I’m assuming that the old shortcodes will continue to work with the classic editor to ensure we have backward compatibility.

    Also we enjoy making audio and video playlists. We hope you will be including functionality for those too.

    Please let us know.

    Thank you.

    You’ll be pleased to know that the Gallery block in Gutenberg will have the same features as the gallery functionality in WordPress core. It won’t be adding any new from plugins yet, although it is likely Jetpack and other plugins will integrate with Gutenberg.

    With regards to playlists that is absolutely something being worked on. The idea being that Gutenberg ships with all the features in the core WordPress media module.

    @karmatosed – Thank you, Tammie.

    Important question:

    When the WordPress Gallery is fully functioning with Gutenberg in the WordPress core, if someone wants to use the classic editor plugin to create a new post with a new gallery for that post, can they still create one using the classic editor that is created like they would now?

    If the shortcodes for galleries are to be backward compatible, I would assume that you could also create galleries using the classic editor plugin enabled.

    If not, this will be extremely confusing to people who still want to maintain their website using the classic editor.

    When Gutenberg goes live, image galleries will only be able to be created using the Gutenberg editor?

    Will old and new image gallery shortcodes be able to be supported together?

    Side note to lauritasita Please do not @ people in your replies. That’s too much and borderline spammy.

    Sorry, I just thought I’d put the @ symbol in so that Tammie will get back to me.
