WordPress Gallery

I have just upgraded to wordpress 3.6 today.
I was trying to set up next gen gallery plugin( as i searched and found it is said to increase page speed) and it asked to upgrade wordpress first.

Then when i went to my homepage which is where i have my image gallery, in dashboard; i no longer see the add to gallery or edit gallery options on the left.
it is not seen in the visual editor although i see codex in the tet editor and the site still shows the images…
I need to add images using the add to gallery option where i can just select an image from my media library and add it with caption to my gallery.
I i activate my next gen gallery how can i copy the existing wp gallery to it.
I am lost. Please help
