• Hello,

I was a WordPress dev a few years ago and I want to know if what I know is still current. Building a WordPress website from static HTML and Jquery and so on. Is it still just adding the normal WordPress init files and code. To get it running.

Is it still common to use custom post type and custom fields for the content on the page?

Sorry, I may need to get back into it and I’m in a little panic.

    Thanks.

Welcome back! You can review each release’s field guide published since you’ve been away. The biggest change was in the 5.0 release which introduced the block editor. If you’re converting a static site it probably wouldn’t factor much into your work. It was a controversial change, many users have installed the Classic Editor plugin to regain the old tinyMCE editor.

A good number of functions and hooks have been added, but very few older things have been deprecated, so your skills remain relevant.

Yes, post types and post meta are still good vehicles to contain custom object information and content. Dive in and start developing! No need for panic, it’ll be fine.
