WordPress for a large corporate website?
-
I am talking to a large school whose website currently consists of several hundred individually written HTML pages. I’m advising them to move over to a Content Management System.
Is WordPress appropriate to their needs? I am very happy indeed with my own WordPress website (still on 1.5.2) and I find WordPress very intuitive to understand and find one’s way around. Plus the support and commitment to the future is superb.
But what if the school website isn’t really a blog but eventually ends up with hundreds, or even thousands, of WordPress Pages? Would it perform as well as it does for a smaller site. Are there any big issues to consider?
I’ve looked at Drupal as an alternative but there’s something rather weird about Drupal – not sure what, exactly. I’d like to advise this school to consider WordPress as one possible way into their future on the web – but I’m not 100% sure if this is the best advice.
As a minor example, one thing I’ve noticed is that in 1.5.2 there isn’t a pager in admin Manage Pages as there is for Manage Posts. That would be an issue when there are hundreds of Pages.
But of course there may be bigger performance and site management issues to consider and which I have’t thought of. Any advice or comments would be appreciated.
