• Hi all,

I’ve just tried going to my site and am getting this page:

“There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

Learn more about debugging in WordPress.”

I don’t know anything about debugging and from reading that page had no clue what to do, I can’t find an email with instructions on how to fix my site – can anyone advise please?

    Thanks!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Hi James,

Thanks so much for your reply!

Both of these options seem a bit above my skill level, is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks!

    Hi James,

I’ve now tried the second option as per your suggestion but nothing has changed, I’ve tried having a look through the instructions for manually resetting my plugins but that is far too complex for me.

    Can you advise?

    Thanks!

If you were able to reset the theme via SFTP or FTP as instructed, you can do similar for the plugins. It’s the second option under that first link.
