• Hi,
ever since we installed WordPress, we’ve had a problem, that I’m no so fed up with that I’ve decided to get it fixed.

The problem is, I know WordPress is supposed to create three different sizes of every image I upload. Trouble is, it doesn’t. I only have the original size to choose from. This means that large pictures will just be scaled in a post, but still remain the original size. I’ve tried changing the settings for how large the images should be, but to no avail.

Anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

  • Have you checked the image file dimensions configured in Settings -> Media?

Yes I have. I’ve even tried changing them. They are currently at 150×150, 300×300, and 1024×1024. I have never gotten any other size than the original after uploading an image, though.

And I assume that all of the images you have uploaded are larger than 150×150, yes? Have you checked (via FTP) that none of the generated images sizes exist in your uploads folder(s)?

Yes, it is the large (over 2000 px) images that are the problem. And there are no small images in the upload directory at all, only the original images.

Aha! You could be hitting a PHP memory limit. Try checking your site’s error logs for memory-related messages. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

Well, no, it doesn’t matter what size image we put into the system, we never get the smaller sizes. What I meant was, as long as we keep to about 500px, it doesn’t really matter that we get the full-size images. But the larger images are a real pain when they have to load completely. And the smaller images shouldn’t make PHP hit the memory limit, should it?

Is there any way to get a log to tell us what function doesn’t get called or doesn’t do what it’s supposed to?
