I am the admin and I have one editor. I have some users with restricted access(no post deleting capability). None of us deleted those posts.
Could this be a malfunctioning plugin? any one of the users? hacked? or WordPress itself?

If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Off hand, couple of names that come to mind are Sucuri and Wordfence.
