WordPress database error Commands out of sync

Could you provide a list of all other plugins running on your site, please?

From our researching into this, it seems that this error occurs when mysql query data is left in an inconsistent state – this is likely due to another plugin running a query and not “finishing” it off, or clearing it correctly. This isn’t necessarily the fault of the Shield plugin, but our plugin is facing the error because another plugin hasn’t done the necessary work to let our plugin do what it needs to do. If we can get a list of your plugins, we can try replicating it.

Alternatively, you can try disabling any other security plugins on your site and see if that clears it up.

Are you using the latest version of Shield? You may want to reinstall – you have errors occurring that just shouldn’t be happening if the plugin is installed correctly.

Also, can you find the earliest date the DB SQL error started? If so, can you find out which plugin you either updated or installed on that day?

This problem occurs after activating shield plugin
There was no problem two days ago
I installed the wp rocket plugin two days ago

I think Shield plugin is incompatible with the wp rocket plugin
Because after deactiving the wp rocket, another error was not displayed

I hadn’t looked in an error log in a while, but I’m getting this intermittently on some of my sites too. The only commonality is that the ones I’ve found exist on the same server.

I deleted the plugin and all settings, re-installed, and the errors have continued.

We were never able to narrow down the culprit of this – we believe a plugin was leaving WordPress database object in an inconsistent state as it wasn’t clearing out the previous result.

What you’ll need to try is:

• identify common plugins on your sites that experience this error
• test a site by disabling 1 of these plugins and see if the error persists
• repeat this on each suspect plugin until you can find a plugin that stops the error happening..
• if you can (1) disable a plugin and the error disappears, and then (2) reenable the plugin and the error returns, you’ve found the problem plugin.

We’ve made a change to our plugin for the next release such that it’ll attempt its own database queries before other plugins so that another plugin can’t leave it in an inconsistent state. The problem stems from the fact that a plugin leaves a mess, then we try to use the WP DB object and it throws up this warning.

Hopefully you can find the problem plugin (and if it’s started recently, it’s probably a recently updated plugin). Let us know when you find a potential candidate.
