• I don’t use godaddy free hosting, I pay for it, so I don’t know if that matters but I saw the other topic and that seemed to be the reason for the dashboard problems. It just happened 2 days ago out of nowhere. I haven’t changed anything except theme colors and line spacing but I even tried a different theme and the dashboard is still broken. I have tried multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Safari; Mac user here)- all the same. My other WordPress site which is under the same godaddy account works and looks fine.

I have no idea what happened but as far as I can tell, I had nothing to do with it. Here is what my dashboard looks like:

any ideas what to do or why this is happening?

    Thank you kindly.
    This stinks ??

Ok so I just deleted everything on my ftp server. I changed my password at godaddy and then I did a clean install of wordpress. The dashboard looks correct until I click on any option in the sidebar, it then goes back to looking like it did. I don’t know what’s wrong now. Everything should be clean. I create a new database and all.

I’m about to go insane. I lost everything on my blog and now I can’t even start a new one without having the same problem.

Any ideas at all? I did notice that the only folder I can’t delete from my ftp is my stats folder and when I try to delete it it says its denied because of htaccess or something. Could the culprit lie in there? I don’t know. Ughhh I need to get my blog back up ??

I’m a noob with a lot of this btw. I can do basic things. Probably why I was hacked.

Anybody? I’ve done 3 fresh reinstalls and nothing. Something is seriously wrong.

The only folder that I can’t get out of my ftp server is my stats folder from godaddy which I suspect must be the source of the corruption. But I can’t edit anything in there so it doesn’t matter.

I did take a look at the .htaccess file and it is blank. According to the link above it should have some code regarding wordpress but I can’t edit that file. I’m not sure if that was the hacker’s doing or godaddy.

Regardless, I am about to go postal.

Are you using the same theme each time or the default one?

    Thread Starter unclefarkus

    (@unclefarkus)

Just the default one upon the fresh installs. I was using a different one yesterday when first reported the problem, but I don’t have it installed on this new install. No plugins or modifications have been made at all and it still looks unformatted and messy. The only thing that still exists from the time period of the initial problem is that stats folder.

The blog (https://unclefarkus.com) isn’t trying to give you a virus anymore is it? I’m on a mac so I don’t see the popup that others have told me about where it tries to install stuff.

EDIT: and the main dashboard front page still looks correct, but any other links on the sidebar are unformatted after clicking.

I can’t see any obvious signs of malicious code, so I’m thinking that’s probably not the problem at the moment.

    Things to try then…

Make sure you’ve got all your plugins deactivated.
    Clear your cache.
    Try a different browser.
    Try adding:
    define( 'CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false );
near the top of your wp-config.php file.
    Speak to godaddy.

My goodness, emptying the cache did it for all browsers. I tried that when the problem first came about with no luck so I didn’t even think to try it again after reinstalling. It was just that easy huh? Well thank you alism. You’ve made me a very happy blogger again ??

    Thread Starter unclefarkus

    (@unclefarkus)

Well, I think I found the hacked file (or one of them at least). There’s an odd ‘eval(base64_decode’ code in the sidebar php page of my old theme. A code that isn’t there in a clean install of that theme. Googling those first few lines has led me to think that is it. Now to just keep my security tight. Thanks for the help again!
