My dashboard looks completely different – like a scaled down version of what it used to be. I thought it might have something to do with my computer at home (I use Firefox), but it still looks that way when I log in on my computer at work (uses IE).

I went in to edit one of my posts and it is not very user friendly at all. None of the graphics were visible, post edit was only available in html. I did clear my history/cookies, closed out, and tried again and it still isn’t back to normal.

    Please help ??

  • you can try uploading new copies of WP core files.
    Or try deactivating all plugins….

Also, a jacked up dashboard can be a symptom of being hacked…..do you see anything strange in your theme’s php files? (in the code)

If your admin area is too hard to navigate, may have to do via ftp

Nevermind… it won’t let me post the link to my picasa album.

Thanks. I deactivated my plug-ins and deleted the ones I wasn’t using, cleared history, closed out – then went back in and it was the same.

I’ll have to look into my theme files when I get home after work.

It’s a problem I’ve come across a few times….you must be thorough with solving the problem, or it will come back

Are you kidding me? Jeez… I just spent a while taking out all that coding in all my theme’s .php files and all my plugin .php files. I guess I’ll be working on it tonight! Thanks a bunch!!

sure thing. Also, do you have anything else installed on your server? Like a forum, another WP install, anything? Check those too. Last time it happened to me….everything was hosed. Good luck!

Nope – only my blog. Do you know how it happens? Or how to stop it from happening again?

many ways it could happen. You could have a virus on your computer that gives out your passwords. You could have weak passwords. Your host may have weak security which could affect you.

the post I made on the thread I referenced above has lots of advice for cleaning and hardening wordpress to prevent future recurrence.

Especially important is finding out if you have any rogue php files hidden anywhere, like your uploads folder. Those files can be used to dirty up all your php files

Sorry, but I don’t follow your discussion nd my dashboard is totally different from what I’m used to. It’s black and white and won’t open the visual mode for working on pages

    Hi Greg –

When you’re in your dashboard 3e all your options on the left? Go uner Appearences and select editor. Scroll all the way down and it should show your theme’s files. Select on the first few and see if you see odd coding beginning with “eval”. If you do you’ll need to delete it out of ALL your .php files and follow the instructions in the link above.

This happened to me on an old version of WordPress. I just clicked “upgrade to WordPress 2.9” and after the install, the dashboard was back to normal.
