    Hi Tobias,

I’m having a problem with large tables.

We have one state page that has a table with 530 rows. The last time I attempted to edit this table WordPress crashed 4 times on me before I was finally able to complete the update on the 5th try.

I’m not sure about the cause of the crash, besides the size of the table. Or it could be, an overload to WordPress, an overload to TablePress, a slow transfer rate between me and our ISP, or what.

I’ve thought of breaking up the larger tables into smaller ones of say 100 rows or less. But, this would cause problems with sorting by column contents and searching the full state.

    The page link is above.

    Any thoughts?

    Ted

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

With “WordPress crashes”, you actually mean that your browser crashes, right?

The reason for this usually is the large number of text input fields when editing large tables. All browsers have problems managing that large number of fields, unfortunately. There is no solution to this at this time, unfortunately, but I’m working on completely restructuring the “Edit” screen, so that this will be faster in the future.

In the meantime, a good workaround might be to edit the table e.g. in Excel and then save it as a CSV file, which can again be imported into TablePress.
Testing a different web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Edge, …) is also always worth a try.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Actually, I wouldn’t say the browser crashed, but the WordPress session in ALL the browser tabs that were open for my webpages crashed.

And now that you mention trying a different browser, I remember that we’ve talked about this before when I had the problem. It’s been so long since I’ve worked on the bigger tables, that I forgot about trying a different browser. Chrome was the problem.

I’ll be interested to see what you do with the restructuring of the “Edit” screen.

    Hi Ted,

due how the browser tab handling works, usually all tabs to the same website are affected, yes ??

Good to hear that using a different browser helps for now!

    Regards,
    Tobias
