• Hi!

    This is my first time posting to any WordPress support forum. I hired a web developer to create my website:www.lovenurturegrow.com (and have since cut ties with them). At the time, I told them I didn’t want the ability for people to comment on my website. It was stupid and a mistake. Now I would like to add that functionality back to my website.

    The problem is that, instead of just disabling the native WordPress comment system (which would have made total sense to give me the option to add it later), they left the interface/dashboard untouched (it’s there, but none of it works). They either deleted the code or added some kind of code to completely hide it. I can’t figure out how to put it back or if I should just try to find a plugin to replace what the native WordPress comment system would have done. I have Jetpack loaded as well, but I have the same problem. The settings are there for comments, but they don’t work.

    If anyone could give me direction on how to fix this, I would be super appreciative. I’ve been looking for a solution for a few weeks now, but have yet to find one.

    Thank you in advance!
    Tanisha D.

  • Hi Tanisha,

    it seems you’re using a custom theme on your site. If the developers have removed the code for comment functionality from the theme, then you probably won’t be able to enable comments until this is implemented again correctly.

    Probably the best you could do is contact the developers and ask them what they’ve done exactly and how to get the comment functionality back.

    If you can’t get hold on the developer, maybe try to see if the comments.php page is still exist in your theme, if is there then you just have to paste that code at the bottom of the page or post type you want to comments to appear on
    <?php comments_template(”,true); ?>

    Thank you both! My worst fear realized. I’ll contact them and see what they say. Grrr.
    By the way, there is a comments.php, but it is completely blank. Insert cry face <here>. =(

    Good luck. As an alternative you could hire someone else for this (if the developers don’t cooperate). Implementing the comments usually isn’t a big deal and shouldn’t be too expensive.

    Thanks, MH Themes! “Shouldn’t be too expensive” is music to my ears!
