• In WordPress I created a duplicate of a page to test some changes. The program named the file by adding a -2 to the end of the name of the original.

I deleted the -2 version and then checked to see if everything was OK. When I clicked on a link to the original page, the correct page name appeared in the URL window and then immediately changed by adding the -2 at the end. As a result, the correct page did not come up.

How can I stop the program from automatically accessing the -2 page (even though I deleted it)?

  • Make sure it’s been removed from the trash bin in your dashboard so that only one version of the page title actually exists. Then you can rename the title and the slug if you have to, and it should stick.

    Thanks for your response.

I did as you suggested. I found it in the trash bin, purged from page cache and deleted it permanently. Doesn’t seem to matter. The problem still exists.

I think if I were troubleshooting this, I might try first renaming the page and – or page slug (permalink) to reflect the title without the “-2” in it. Save the changes, and see if that does it. If not, see if you have a category named exactly the same as the page title somewhere, and if so, try changing that. I might also take into account how any caching plugin could affect the issue. Lastly, log out, clear your browser cache completely and then revisit the page to see if anything changes.
I’m not quite sure I know what else might cause it.

I’m still working on it. I will let you know when I finally figure out what happened.

    Thanks for your input.
