• Not a blog – more a CMS. I’d been looking for ages for a CMS to use on my site –

but they all seem to be a mass of nested tables. I’d overlooked WordPress as I wasn’t looking for blog software. Then I came across it by a different route (looking into RSS) and I was blown away.
The site is basically a straight conversion of my previous static site, with a few extra posts. There’s still a few tweaks to make and I think a links page to give due recognition to WordPress and the various plugins is a must. Maybe I should have a proper blog on the site as well ?

  • I have to mainly agree with Joh… and probably should add: try to do something with the odd (default) footer. Everybody knows it doesn’t work. Here is some reading about it.
You can also see an almost CMS modification of WP by following this thread

Actually, the latest CVS version, 1.3-alpha-5, has the CMS-like feature of being able to create entirely separated and independent pages located out of the main blog.
This, in addition to other modifications that you can find by Googling, should enable you to turn your blog into a hybrid or mostly a CMS.

Thanks for the comments – quite right joh about the date headers etc. I’ve done the easy bit and got rid of the times. I like the idea of “last update” – I’ll do that as soon as I’ve got time (one of the reasons for wanting a CMS). Oops, should have seen the comments RSS myself.
Thanks, moshu and whayworth for the links and the info on v1.3 alpha 5. Must sort out the footer as suggested.
