WordPress as a CMS for a client

Hi,

I have a client that needs CMS functionality. I am confident WordPress can deliver the site but am wondering if anyone has experience of doing this – in particular I am interested in client’s expectations.

Do clients see WordPress as just an open source product? They would like to own the site (management and code) – I understand that if I developed the site in wordpress they would own the site but not the core code. As I bid for the work I would state I would use an open source CMS to drive down development costs. Obviously this would be the clients decision but if there are any thoughts on these issues, it would be very helpful.
