  • LiteSpeed also claims that wordpress.com runs on LiteSpeed. Is it true?

Yes, and no. A part of www.remarpro.com was running on LiteSpeed. I’m unsure if any part or whole of WordPress.com, is currently running on any particular web server.

When we need to manage such a large pool of servers, it is not uncommon to keep running a particular technology / portion of the site/s in a small pool of servers, just to see how it scales up and to analyze its performance in general.

To provide you some real life examples…

https://redbot.org/?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.com – Shows that it runs on Nginx.

https://redbot.org/?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.remarpro.com – Shows that it runs on Nginx too.

https://redbot.org/?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fplugins.svn.www.remarpro.com%2Fapc%2F – Shows that it runs on Apache.

I can’t remember the WP.org URL where I saw that LiteSpeed was running. Sorry.

From the link you’ve provided, I see that LiteSpeed’s PHP performance is up to 50% higher than Apache’s mod_php. There are so many changes in Apache and in PHP, since mod_php. Particularly, Apache 2.4 with event mpm and with PHP-FPM may outperform LiteSpeed, I guess.

Is that right? I mean I saw multiple benchmarks from 2 years ago where
    litespeed > nginx > lighttpd > apache

With Apache 2.4 has Apache finally caught up with nginx too? Or do you think litespeed has just lost lot of ground?

Funny timing. Looks like Wired just wrote a story about WordPress’s move to nginx.
    https://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2013/09/nginx/

So the real question is: if wordpress.com runs mainly on nginx then why doesn’t WordPress come in a better package for nginx…I mean from .htaccess to many modules…it seems clear that WordPress is written for Apache…

Been digging a bit and seems there;s something called OpenLiteSpeed – the OpenSource edition of LiteSpeed. So I suppose that if wordpress.com wanted they could have stuck to LS via OLS and still stayed true to OpenSource philosophy. Esp. considering that OLS supports Apache rewrites…

I don’t think so. Since Apache is a very generic and a general purpose web server, it can be used to host for almost every application / software. Nginx is yet to support all the applications. Or to put it otherwise, the applications are not yet ready to be hosted by Nginx.

Or do you think litespeed has just lost lot of ground?

    I do think so.

    Funny timing.

?? Just read this comment by Barry in that article.

Not just WordPress, but almost every application / software is no different.

It was just too late, IMO. But, we never knew what would happen in the future. If Nginx was closed source, it may not have come this far.

Servers often make bogus performance claims, but based on what you have said, this one seems to take the cake.

    https://www.serverwatch.com/server-news/apache-2.4-delivers-more-performance.html

“We also show that as far as true performance is based – real-world performance as seen by the end-user- 2.4 is as fast, and even faster than some of the servers who may be “better” known as being “fast”, like nginx,” – Jim Jagielski, ASF President

Fair enough, but if on your own servers you use nginx and in the codex you also recommend nginx, then WordPress should come in a better package for nginx including rewrites, documentation etc rather than asking users to figure it out themselves via some blog articles which may or may not be accurate. Perhaps the wordpress.com guys should be roped in to help with the codex…

I use litespeed on NetRegistry and i prefer it to the apache server i use on melbourneIT.

I don’t mind which one i use so long as i can be confident that if my website gets a burst of traffic it wont crash. And im able to easily make changes to php by .htaccess or php.ini.

my experience with Apache through melbourneIT has been discouraging, and my exprience with litespeed through netregistry has been a breeze.

mostly running wordpress but also moodle and vtiger. all except wordpress a nightmare to setup on melbourneIT. the problems i had at melbIT were probably because of them and not apache software.

    hi

the wordpress ( .com and .org ) totally based at NGINX web server

    tahnx
