• Is anyone out there having problems running a wordpress site on Godaddy. I have a couple of sites running with wordpress. I also manage a site that is hosted on wordpress.com. The sites that are hosted through Godaddy are seriously slow to load, sometimes taking about 6-10 seconds. I’m using a premium theme and have been posting on their site to resolve the issue and it appears that no one else is having the same problem and they think it’s my hosting account. I’ve optimized my images. And I’ve used a couple of different cache plug-ins. Nothing seems to help.

What is your experience with GoDaddy?

I started hosting with them a couple of years ago just because I didn’t know what else was out there, but now I’m thinking I might have to switch. I’d rather not just because it seems like a pain, but I got to speed up my sites.

Any advice or insights are appreciated! Thanks in advance.

  • Are you on a Share hosting plan, vps or dedicated server??

That’s a good question. I’m not sure. The plan I signed up for says

Hosting – Web – Deluxe – Linux. I’m pretty sure that it’s not a dedicated server since they are offering that as an upgrade. How do I find out if it’s Share or VPN?

That is linux/apache shared web hosting.

Same thing I have. I’ve had ups and downs with them. It all depends on your server, and how your ‘neighbours’ behave

If someone hogs all the resources, you get left out. I’ve heard a lot of people complian about godaddy overselling servers, and performance suffering.

My load times aren’t great, but not terriblr either. Caching plugins are a bit tricky on godaddy I’ve found. Just activating them may do next to nothing. Further configuration may be needed (I’ve had to get help in the past from the cache plugin authors)

I use shared servers from GoDaddy and all of my sites are lightning fast. Were your sites always slow or just recently?

There’s a good chance that the slow loading times have to do with what’s on the site too. Heavy imagery is often a culprit.

The sites used to be static HTML sites that I created. They were fine. Then I added wordpress and revamped them using a premium theme I downloaded. Even since the add-on of wordpress, they haven’t worked well. I had originally thought that it might be the wordpress theme, but no one else seems to have a problem with it.

All of the images have been optimized and are not very big. I even unpacked the theme and reduced the size of the background, etc by more than half. Imagery is probably not the issue.

Good to know that you’ve had a good experience with Godaddy.

There are many free tools to check your site speed and to see if there are obvious ways to improve on it.

One that I’ve used recently is websiteoptimization.com.

It seems it might be a browser problem. I downloaded Firefox and the site works fine there. Internet Explorer is the problem.

    Any suggestions for that?

There could be a plethora of things. I would first start with accessing your site with IE on another PC and see how that behaves.
