WordPress All Dashboard completely blank

  • I have a WordPress site that I have not upgraded for a while.

    The front end displays fine

    The backend is completely blank

    Not one menu option on the left displays anything on the right.

    I have tried renaming the plugins directory in FTP, no difference

    I also tried renaming the active theme directory in FTP, no difference.

    I tried swapping out PHP files with a newer version, no difference

    I am guessing that all I can do now is dump the database, copy the front end files, install a new WP install in a new database and then import the database, hoping for the best.

    Any ideas for a quicker fix?
