• Good morning,

While I am working in the WordPress admin panel I run into a sporadic situation where the WordPress system becomes unavailable. I get a timed out message.

During that time I delete cookies and history, but the system doesn’t respond. However, if I wait approximately ten minutes the system returns to normal. I do not have to log in; I have full functionality.

If I remember correctly, this started happening after I upgraded. I have since re-installed the new version and I continue to experience the time out issues.

    Please share your thoughts.

  • Have you talked to your host about this? I think it has something to do with server security.

Sorry, I should have provided some of the details I have already covered:

    – same situation on two devices within my house; windows laptop and ipad
    – spoke with router manufacturer and we reset the setting to the defaults and we lowered the firewall setting to the lowest option; but we did not disable the firewall.
    – spoke with my ISP and they assure me they are sending the request to the host provider.
    – spoke with my host provider and they assure me everything is correct. They know I recently switched to WordPress.

When WordPress goes down I am not able to access my public site either. However, other can.

    Have you tried:
-deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
-switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

I am in the process of working through the plug-ins Since this issue is sporatic, it could take a day or two for it to re-occur; but it does.

Is there anything else that comes to your mind?

    I appreciate your thoughts,
    Bill

I can understand that. No, this is the basic debug to find problems. Maybe you could try these other things in parallel but then we may never know the exact reason.

    Thanks,

I receive a time out message; server not responding. I read the following:

    Connection Timed Out
The connection timed out error appears when your website is trying to do more than your server can manage. It is particularly common on shared hosting where your memory limit is restricted. Here are some things you can try:

Deactivate all Plugins. If deactivating all the WordPress Plugins on your site resolves the issue, reactivate them one-by-one to see which plugin is causing the problem. If you are unable to access your Administration Screens, read about how to manually deactivate your plugins.
Switch to the default WordPress Twenty Fifteen Theme. This should rule out any Theme-related problems.
Increase your memory limit in wp-config.php. If you are on shared hosting you may have to ask your hosting provider to increase your memory limit for you.
Increase the maximum execution time in your php.ini file. This is not a WordPress core file so if you are not sure how to edit it, contact your hosting provider to ask them to increase your maximum execution time. See instructions for increasing maximum execution time.

Could these issue be sporadic? I run into this situtaion anywhere from two or three times a day up to a day or two between errors.

    Take care,
    Bill

I apoligize; I just re-read you post and noticed your ask for a link.

    The website is ForgottenThymeFarm.com

As I said, the error occurs when I am working on the site through WordPress. The site has never gone done on its own.

    Take care,
    Bill

Yes, the issue could be sporadic in fact most often is as it defends on what other websites are doing on the server as well.

    (@papaburke)

It is happening now; WordPress has timed out. Here is the message:

    This site can’t be reached

forgottenthymefarm.com took too long to respond.
    Check your internet connection.

Check any cables and reboot any routers, modems, or other network devices you may be using.
If it is already listed as a program allowed to access the network, try removing it from the list and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server…

Check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don’t believe you should be using a proxy server:

The only plug-ins I have currently activated are the ones that come with the Theme; Weaver Xtreme. Are you familiar with that Theme? Any sugggestions?

    Take care,
    Bill

I have deactivated the Weaver plugins; I will see what happens.

-switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Did you try a different theme?

Did you post on https://forum.weavertheme.com/ I had a Weaver theme. They are good about support.

I have disabled all of the plug-ins and I still have the issue. I found a way to re-create it on demand.

I simply open a page or post and tell WordPress to save it. I repeat this save command five or six times immediately after the previous request refreshes the page. After the handful of saves WordPress shuts down with the time out error.

Ten minutes later the system if functional and I can do it again if I choose.

    Any thoughts?

    Take care,
    Bill

I forgot to mention; I spoke with my host provider this morning and they have nothing in place that would restrict this type of activity.

I have asked someone else to put their eyes on this.
