• I will begin by stating this problem hasn’t always happened while using my site and the plugins that are installed, in fact just last week there was no issue at all.

    When I save ANY settings or activate ANY plugin on my site, my WordPress admin page doesn’t complete the page load and I am left with a completely white page.

    For an example I activated a plugin called ‘Customizer Backups‘ after I clicked activate on the plugins screen, the page tries to load back to the plugins screen, but stops on a white screen (nothing at all is on this white screen, not even the WordPress admin bar).

    The only thing relating to my site is in the address bar in my browser, it is this long string below…

    (removed for privacy, but was my site url)/wp-admin/plugins.php?action=activate&plugin=mp-customizer-backups%2Fmp-customizer-backups.php&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s&_wpnonce=6d652a8651

    I then have to delete some of the address in the address bar to get back to my site, or reload from a bookmark. I have just been removing everything after ‘plugins.php’, press return and my site loads the plugin page with the plugin I have just tried to activate, activated successfully.

    I have tried deactivating ALL plugins and reverting to a standard theme, but this error still happens.

    As well as that, I have noticed a few other problems that are most likely connected.

    These are;

    I am unable to view my media library using the grid layout. I can on the other hand, view my files in the list layout as usual. I can also upload files as usual too.

    But when I click the grid layout icon, the loading circle just constantly loads, never stops and nothing actually loads.

    And;

    I’m getting a strange response when I try to download a backup of my customizer settings using this plugin.

    The plugin gives you a button labeled ‘Create backup of current customizer settings’, which after i click it, does what you would expect and creates a back up. The backup is then available (via a button underneath) to revert to, download or delete.

    When I click download, the page loads a completely white page with the below text and nothing else…

    {"0":false,"nav_menu_locations":{"primary":3,"footer":3}}

    I don’t have a clue what this is referring to.

    If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • So definitely sounds like it is connected to “plugin=mp-customizer-backups”

    If it still causes problems when you have deactivated all the plugins (including the one above – obviously), then you might want to do a fresh install and start again – avoiding the above plugin this time.

    Will that not mean that I have to start from scratch and build the site all over again?

    As if I were to upload from a backup, the problem would just be re-uploaded too wouldn’t it?

    Also, I have had the customizer backups plugin installed for quite some time and never had an issue with it before.

    Have you tried deactivating the plugins as mentioned?

    You can reactivate them again straight afterwards once you find the one causing the problems.
