What happens: sometimes when i upload new images from a pc, wordpress hangs. It would seem that my entire site was then not functioning. so even if I used in private firefox browsing I couldn’t access the site homepage as a user.

I previosuly assumed something was happening on the server and used to force a change in php version which seemed to reset things.

However i’ve noticed that when this happens, if i switch to the MS EDGE browser the site seems to work fine as a user.

so I’m thinking there is something specific to Firefox.

I am on the latest versions of wordpress, firefox, other browsers, php, plugins…everything. The php max image upload size is set larger than i ever need.

any suggestions? – it’s REALLY annoying

    thank you

  • How do you upload pictures? Via the Media Library or do you use the options available in your editor?

Have you also tried it in the private browser window of Firefox?

i only use standard www.remarpro.com admin functionality to upload

i do it usually from within a post when creating a new post. however the behaviour is the same if i do it from the media library upload.

Example: I might upload six images. Two might work, and the other appears only to be part-uploaded. I sometimes get a message saying the size exceeds some limit or other. This happened a few minutes ago for a 400kb file (kb). My php limit is something like 4mb per image.

as I say, I think it appears to be specifically linked to firefox

I had specifically asked about the private Firefox browser window as no browser add-ons are active in this window that could possibly interfere. Alternatively, a test with Firefox on a completely different computer would also be useful if it is a security tool on your computer that is interfering here.

Also have a look in WordPress under Tools > Site Health to see if any warnings appear there.

i only have ublock-origin and grammarly add-ons in firefox, I suspect that isn’t the cause. however i will test with in-private browsing as you suggest.

there was one critical issue flagged up under tools>site health (1Mb of autoloaded options, from reading around this should not be a problem but i will investigate further) and two performance issues (old version of sql mariaDB and Cron jobs not running…both of which i was aware of. the latter being as an attempt to solve the issue I have)

thank you for any further insights
