I have just updated to WordPress 5.5 which now includes a xml sitemap as part of its core. Question: Does the update make this plugin redundant or will this plugin still an improvement on the built in version?

  • Glad that it reassured / comforted you!

And, yes, it’s strange that it’s not included in the changelog. I guess @auctollo / Arne Brachhold has his own reasons… Although I can’t be sure, of course, I doubt it’s an omission. Anyway, this question is answered…

Hi. Got a related sitemap issue with core5.5. Seems sitemap is not generated for each subdomain in our multi-site. I see a 404 Error page when trying to create the sitemap.
I found that to get the sitemap produced, I needed to re-save the permalinks. However, this did not work for all subdomain sites, does anyone have a solution that would work for all sites please? (BTW, the search engines have not been restricted from searching the site. So, this isn’t the problem.

With the latest version 4.1.1, we have disabled WordPress core sitemaps in favor of Google XML Sitemap due to the flexibility and additional features our plugin provides. As some individuals have mentioned, we recommend to avoid adding any code and merely upgrading the plugin.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

+1, on @roam92 comment, I also spend some time to confirm in codebase and change-log about disabled wp5.5 XML sitemap feature, its more helpful if plugin author keeps change-log descriptive ??

@auctollo, thanks for letting us know that the plugin disables the core sitemaps.

However, the virtual WP robots.txt on my site contains the sitemap link to /wp-sitemap.xml which is disabled and shows 404 if you go there. Basically, now I have two sitemap links inside of my WP robots.txt (/wp-sitemap.xml and /sitemap.xml)

So my question is: How to get rid of /wp-sitemap.xml line in my WP robots.txt? How big of a problem it is? Would you recommend creating the actual robots.txt file myself end edit it manually?

    Thanks!
