• Updated to 5.0. In addition to Updating Failed (another thread), I am also seeing that I can no longer choose any of my categories. They are still in the left sidebar of wordpress where I can create and edit them, but I cannot choose what category I want my new posts to belong to, and I cannot edit my existing post categories.

This is pretty important for me.

Now I have disabled all plugins, I renamed htaccess to htaccessOFF to prevent it from loading at all, and I went to twentyseventeen theme. Same problem, although the Category box on the right sidebar vanished. It cameback when I renamed htaccessOFF to htaccess so it would load again, but still no categories listed.

I think we will all be best served to just use the classic editor plugin until the bugs are worked out. For those that have it up and working, that’s great, but I cannot get it at all.

To install Classic Editor, visit your plugins page and click the “Install Now” button next to “Classic Editor”. After the plugin finishes installing, click “Activate”. That’s it!

    Hi @gatehealing
First Publish all your posts or projects and open with Quick Edit each then you can assign to the category you want.
This methods worked for me .
    Good LUCK

I had the same problem with my website. The problem was one of the plugins. It was the plugin “PayPal Plus for WooCommerce” by Inpsyde GmbH. I’m not sure if it was because they haven’t updated their API, JSON, or AJAX code after the last WP update, but I flushed the permalinks twice and went through each plugin by deactivating them one by one, checking the functionality of the “new post” and category feature each time, and then voila that was the problem.
