    All,

I just wanted to acknowledge concerns regarding incompatibility with WordPress 5.0. I’m aware of the new editor and that DG will be incompatible.

I am hoping to find time to address this making DG compatible with the new visual editor, however I cannot currently provide a timeline. “Real life” has pulled me off of DG for the past year or so.

In the interim, I recommend avoiding upgrading to the latest WP if you wish to continue using DG.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

PS: If any technically inclined want to investigate potential ways to update DG to be compatible with WP 5.0, I’d welcome the assistance.

  • Using WP 5.0.2 and Classic Editor Plugin. When DG is used in a document just choose Classic Editor for the DG bit. Rest of the work done in Block Editor. No real problem with DG with this work around.

Thanks for the workaround, Martyn! Great stop-gap.

I tried to make a document gallery with the classic editor and its still not creating the thumbnails correctly.

I had success with the following workround:

In the Gutenberg Editor I added the block “classic”. In the toolbar I chose “add file” and there I selected the document gallery.

The result was perfect! Also the thumbnails were created correctly.

Latest versions of Gutenberg and Classic loaded. Nice that the classic block and add media work well. Only minor drawback when editing is the absence of thumbnails and text before clicking on the modify icon.

It’d be really great for the plugin to be updated, if only so that WordFence (and WordPress itself) doesn’t keep warning against it, but yes I’ve still got it working fine inside a Classic Block and using shortcode in Edit as HTML mode. Thumbnails working fine, see e.g. https://www.mediareform.org.uk/resources/media-ownership-reports

Hi, how do you get the thumbnails? Are you paying Thumber suscription or does it generate automatically thumbnails for you for free?
I use document gallery for a year and couldnt make it generate automatic thumbnails for my pdfs.

    Thanks

To get the thumbnails you need Ghostscript on your server. Then in the settings of the plugin on the tab “advanced” or “extended” (the last one) you can fill in the static path to ghostscript. Then the thumbnails will be created without any subscription.

    Thanks vidista
I contacted to my hosting provider and they told me my path is /usr/bin/ghostscript
however after “saving changes” in the advanced settings tab it redirects me to a not found page and changes are not saved. any suggestions?

Moreover, my hosting provider told me aswell to check that the plugin doesnt use the exec() command since it can compromise my web security. Do you have any idea about this question?

Excuse my english. BTW My knowledge in wordpress is by trial and error. I am no expert.

Lots of thanks for your answers. You help me a lot.

    @juarmis,

Use of Ghostscript requires that exec be available. When you save changes, DG will confirm that the path exists and that exec is available and if those things aren’t true you won’t be able to save because it’s not a valid configuration. Imagick does not require exec and can handle PDFs if appropriately configured.

In 5.3 DG seems to have stopped working even with the classic editor, you can create new galleries but not edit them or upload additional files. Great shame as this was a super plugin – unfortunately I dont have the knowledge to try and get it working.

I am using WP 5.3.2 with DG 4.4.3 and can create, add/remove files or replace galleries. Always need to activate classic editor while working with DG and deactivating to see things correctly. The DG code should be placed in
    1) a classic block surrounded by <p>-</p> tags
    2) a paragraph block surrounded by []
    3) a shortcode block with the same format as choice 1 or 2 above
Don’t give up because you can get it to work with WP 5.3

Thanks for the encouragement @martyn48 …. I did a bit more research and I’ve found that the problem was caused by another plugin – Enhanced Medial Library by wpUXsolutions, which also has not been updated. I disabled this and, hey-presto, DG now works OK when used in a classic block or Pagebuilder block/widget.

    Wonderful, hopefully
saves me a lot of work……
