If you are wanting to utilize the new editor experience in WordPress 5.0, also known as Gutenberg, you will need to make sure your post types and taxonomies have the “show in rest” option set to true.

If your post types are already using the new editor, but you are not seeing your taxonomies listed along the side, please go confirm that the “show in rest” option is set to true.

In version 1.6.0, Custom Post Type UI changed the default value to true for post types to match, to aid in “Gutenberg readiness”, and in 1.6.1 we made the default be true for taxonomies as well. Any content types created already were not touched or changed, so the edit will still need to be made.
