• Please excuse me, I am not very good at this stuff and find this very fretful and confusing.

I opened my WordPress dashboard and clicked on the “update” button to get the new update.

It said it was under maintenance… and continued to do so for an hour. I then lost power. When the power came back on I went back to WordPress to find an error message “”Fatal error: Cannot redeclare preview_theme() (previously declared in …..”. I had this error both looking at the blog in a browser and trying to access the dashboard.

I followed the advice in this thread.

My blog is hosted by GoDaddy. I used their File Manager in Chrome and copied my original WordPress files to a new directory. Then I copied the new WordPress 4.3 files over to the original directory. I did NOT update the wp-content file nor the wp-config.php file.

Now when I look at my website in a browser I can see the front page. It has some formatting errors, but at least it is there. However clicking on any articles etc results in a 404 Page not found error.

    The blog URL is https://www.tinteddy.com/blog/

I can not get into the WordPress dashboard using the /admin URL – this also gives a 404 page not found error.

I am now at a total loss what to do next. And very upset as this blog means a lot to me.

I would really appreciate any advice as to how to recover my blog.

Update – I tried getting to the dashboard from the actual blog page (the menu thing in the top left corner).

I had a message saying the database needed updating, which I clicked and is reported it had done it.

Now I AM on the dashboard, yay.

However I notice the URL for it is https://www.tinteddy.com/blog/wp-admin/index.php and not just /admin as it was before. Have I managed to copy things wrong?

The blog itself is still messy and still the links to articles do not work.

I don’t know if it is of any help but in the blog I’m managing it’s also …/wp-admin/index.php without anything having broken during the update so I’d guess it’s normal.

    Thank you, Michael.

I wouldn’t mind if it were, hehe, but I do need the links on my site to work again, that is the big problem now.

You are welcome! Hope you get it sorted soon! As your first page loads fine I think you should try the Permalinks. Some other posts here suggest to change permalinks to another setting and then get it back to your original setting. Haven’t tried it myself though so be careful!

I will keep googling and see if I can find other posts that recommend that.

I am very tired indeed today, so probably not in the best state of mind to deal with this sort of thing.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be fresher, and my brain working better ??

Thank you again for your suggestions
