I just upgraded to 4.3 …. and when visiting my site, all I get is a blank page!

When the update to 4.3 was finishing, it also gave me a blank page.

**I cannot get into my dashboard.**

What do I do to restore my site? Help!

    Thanks,

    Edgar

  • Use your Web server’s PHP error log to identify the error, and fix it.

If you cannot do that, disable all your plugins. Enable them one at a time, until the error returns. Delete that plugin.

Learn from your mistakes. Make backups. Don’t rush to install major updates of WordPress. In other words, wait for 4.31, instead of rushing to install 4.3.

Sorry, I am half asleep. If you can’t get into dashboard, disable plugins with PHPMyAdmin.

Open database, make a copy, then execute this SQL:

    update wp_options set option_value = 'a:0:{}' where option_name = 'active_plugins'

    Thanks, Mitchell.

I found another person with the same problem and asked how he fixed it. He told me he hired someone & he got it fixed in minutes.

I did the same thing. Turns out the plug-in wp-ban had some problems, so he de-activated it.

I don’t know that I could have done that or followed your advice to de-activate all plug-ins since I could not access my admin panel at all. (OOPS… just saw your update on how to do this without admin panel access.)

So… problem solved, and I will take you advice to wait for .xx updates before upgrading in the future.

I updated one of mine and got the whitescreen. The installation failed with error msg unable to copy file “wp-includes/js/imgareaselect/jquery.imgareaselect.js”

The upgrade got halfway thru then failed but doesn’t roll back prior changes. I used to see that with theme files being deleted before I switched to child theme. No theme files = white screen.

I keep running backup and looked at the files at wp-includes directories had been updated. I replaced those files with earlier backup and am fine now.

I am running WP on centos and multiple running backups are critical. I use dropbox for one of mine.

WP updates trip up on some file permission about 25% of the time seems to me.

    Ugg, Craig.

A big part of me wants WordPress to stop “improving” its software because the gray hairs that the white screen of death causes is just not worth it.

Hello dworsky. Is there anyway I could get in touch with the person you mentioned who hired someone? I’m looking to hire someone to fix my site also.

    Texastig….

You simply go to [ redacted ] and make your request for single task. You pay $30 via credit card. The system then assigns the task to someone skilled in WordPress issues.

You cannot choose your tasker and I don’t even know the name of the person who helped me.

    It only took 10 minutes.

You should know, that it all likelihood the problem that I experienced (and maybe you too) was an incompatible plugin. In my case, it was WP-BAN, which is known to have a problem with 4.3.

You can Google and search here how to disable a particular plugin when you don’t have access to your control panel.

    Good luck,

    Edgar

Yeah, please don’t recommend places for hiring people in these forums. I know you mean well and you’re just explaining what you did to fix it (and as a support person I salute you *raises coffee mug*) but talk of hiring people get topics here shut down quickly.

In my case, it was WP-BAN, which is known to have a problem with 4.3.

Yep and that was documented on this post here.

Right where it says about WP-BAN.

@texastig Please give that a read, you may find where your problem is in that post.

There’s nothing wrong with paying for help, but these are volunteer support forums. Talk of paying gets real spammy real quickly and often leads to very unsavory people trying to contact you.

    Thanks guys
