WordPress 4.1.1 Appending Permalinks with Number

I have recently noticed that with the later versions of WordPress, if there is a page and an image with the same name and file name, WordPress will append the one that was saved last with a number.

For example, if I created a page titled “New Page” (www.domain.com/new-page), then upload an image named “new-page.jpg”, WordPress will rename the image as “new-page-1.jpg”.

And vice versa, if I uploaded an image named “new-page.jpg”, then created a page titled “New Page” (www.domain.com/new-page), WordPress will add a number to end of the URL (www.domain.com/new-page-1).

Does anyone know how to fix or prevent this?
