WordPress 4.0 – Thumbnails now show wrong colours

    Hi,

    Since upgrading to WordPress 4.0 the plugin no longer seems to generate correct colours on the thumbnails, they look ‘blocky’ and wrong.

    You can see this clearly on my website (https://www.barbaraschoeneberger.com)

    The first post on the page shows the wrong colours, the next post was from the older version of WordPress and displays fine.

    It worked fine before the upgrade so I’m guessing that maybe 4.0 has broken something, I also use it on several other WP powered websites and those are also exhibiting the same problem.

    I hope this can be fixed as this plugin is wonderful, and saves a lot of time.

    I should add this is using the browser generated method, not FFMPEG.

    Thanks for pointing this out! In my testing, the preview images look fine but something goes wrong with the encoding when you save the image. I’ll try to fix it as soon as possible.

    No problem, if its any help I’ve found that Chrome still generates correct thumbnails, but Firefox and IE fail on every file I’ve tried.

    I don’t even get good thumbnails out of Chrome. Something about the way WordPress image manipulation works has changed.

    It looks like the WP_Image_Editor class has gone from a default quality of 90% to something like 0%, so the files are getting crushed to death. I just made a fix in the development version on Github. Would you mind testing it out on your server?

    That seems to have fixed it, the thumbs look normal again, I’ve re-added the video that was corrupted before using Firefox, thanks for the quick response.

    This fix is in last night’s release, version 4.3.4

    Upgraded to 4.3.4 and WordPress to 4. The plugin doesn’t generate video thumbnails anymore. Does it work for anybody else?

    Please post a new thread for this new problem.

    If you’re having trouble making thumbnails in the Media Library page, you can try the development version at https://github.com/kylegilman/video-embed-thumbnail-generator which should fix a bug that was introduced in WP 4.0. If you don’t want to try the development version, I hope to have a fix released very soon.

    Sorry, I thought it was same issue. Do I just overwrite the existing plugin files, or remove and replace the entire video-embed-thumbnail-generator folder?

    I just released version 4.3.5 which should fix the problem.
