WordPress 4 media grid view not showing files

One of my sites is having problem with the media gallery. For some reason files are not shown in the media grid view. The files are uploaded properly and can be shown if you choose the list view.

I have deactivated _all_ plugins and also activated the default theme without that helping at all. All previous posts I’ve seen on the subject is solved by deactivating plugins.

Have anyone experienced this themselfs?
