It’s good to know that’s not my website fault. Someone will help us ??

I was having similar problems today, new images throwing an unspecified HTTP error when uploading, not showing thumbnails in the Media Library, just grey placeholders (although previously existing thumbnails were fine), no image edit options in grid view.

I was just advised on another forum to use the Force Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. I tried it on one test image, freshly uploaded and displaying all these problems, and not only did it get the thumbnail back, it’s fixed the upload and edit problems too, I’m now uploading without errors and able to edit as before. I hope this helps.

Hi Jaiji, i think my problem is a bit more complex. After i try to upload an image, wordpress starts to duplicate these grey thumbnails infinitely, just stop because my host cut the connection :S

I’m having this same issue, hundreds of copies of the file, even when I delete the images from the server side.

ericgarland it’s happening after upgrade wordpress too?

I have the same issue which is a very very very serious bug.
Now I have 4888 copies of the same image in my uploaded media and cannot delete them since the server is slow. WordPress need to test their programs before releasing a bug like this.

It looks like it is a wpml issue or another plugin that is doing this.

Same problem with my website https://dor.academy
Unfortunately all that hundreds of strange thumbnails are registered in wp_posts table in database, together with the rest of the posts details. When deleting those strange 500 recordings, i have “succeded” to delete also some of my posts.
I’ll try to deactivate wpml plugin and do the uploading again.

Yes. Deactivate the plugins belonging to WPML and all will be fine. Do the deactivation, upload your images, and reactivate.

Hmm i will test to deactivate wpml too. So we must contact wpml right?

Same issue. I also use WPML.
Have created a separate thread but when I try to update it it says this topic is closed:/

Now I’m hoping I won’t have deleted any posts as I’ve been deleting those strange thumbnails.
    ARGH

Yeas. I have discovered actually the problem is WPML Media Plugin (Add multilingual support for Media files).
Disable this and you have to add manually the images for every language version of your posts.
I have disabled this plugin and kept WPML Multilingual CMS Plugin activated, and all works fine.

Probably we need to look for WPML updates.
This problem is duscussed also on WPML Suport forum:
    https://wpml.org/forums/topic/images-not-added-to-media-library-on-upload-when-wpml-is-active-2/

    Thanks for the update adyculi.
I tried to access the wpml forum earlier but it seemed to be offline.
I think I’m going to restore a backup from last night though as I don’t know if I broke anything by deleting the weird files.
After that I can disable the plugin and work on until WPML fixes the issue.
