WordPress 4.6.1 is available! Please notify the site administrator.

  • I am the administrator but am getting the above message and cannot upgrade the core or any plugins. I know there are several needing to be updated. I have checked the wp-config file to ensure there is nothing there blocking admins and also checked htaccess to make sure that was not causing a problem.

    The strange thing is I was working on another site in exactly the same condition, same WP version, same plugins, same theme and this problem did not arise and I was able to update everything without a problem.

    Any suggestions as to how to resolve this or am I going to have to install a new core via ftp to the server?

    – Try MANUALLY updating to WP 4.6.1:
    Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.

    – Also, try installing/updating plugins manually:

    Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling this might be necessary but was hoping there might be another solution that maybe someone, having had the same problem, had found an easier way.

    Oh well on to FTP and a manual upload!

    Similarly, I am runnning 3.8.1 and WP updates claims it is the latest version in spite of the dashboard advice to upgrade to release of 4.7.3

    Is there a way to fix the updates mechanism?
