• hi,
Once I upgraded to 3.9, I lost the visual editor and can’t add media. I also lost the easy-to-insert theme shortcodes.
I’ve tried deactivating all plugins and emptying the browser cache, doesn’t make any difference. I’m trying all these kind suggestions on both Safari and Internet Explorer.
Now I tried inserting SCRIPT_DEBUG into the config.php, still no difference on either browser.
The Javascript error reading on Safari says (my translation from Spanish): d=8:-1Recourse interpreted as image but transferred as MIME text/html. (d=8:-1Recurso interpretado como Imagen pero transferido con el tipo MIME text/html.)
I′m a total beginner, if anyone has a moment to help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Hi,

Me too facing the same issue.

    Help please!

Me too, i have a lot of wordpress installations for clients so im pulling my hair out at the moment because i cant do anything with all the sites since updating to 3.9 surely WordPress are working on a fix, i hope so anyway…

    @sillysophie: Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I also lost the easy-to-insert theme shortcodes.

Try temporarily switching to the Twenty Thirteen theme and seeing if the editors show up again. You may need to refresh a few times.

If so, then we know the problem is somewhere in the theme code that you’re using.

    Hi,
    Thanks for all your advice.
I followed it, saw the problem was theme-specific, tried resetting plugins folder and finally, since nothing worked, I deleted all the files using Filezilla and then re-uploaded them (full uninstall and reinstall of wordpress, deleting and re-creating database).
But the website doesn’t have them on. It’s back to only the Sample Page – although it does register the theme I was using, nothing else appears. I thought I must have slipped up somewhere and started all over again, but still the same result.
I deleted and re-uploaded the entire home directory.
Any ideas what I’ve done wrong?
    Thanks a million,
    Sophie

After upgrading, I cannot add links to my posts. I click the link button, add the link, and nothing happens; no link appears. Are you experiencing this or not experiencing it? I’m trying to figure out if this is a programming problem unique to my site or a problem that’s endemic to 3.9.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
marklynn, sorry I never tried that before I deleted all my files so I can’t answer. It’s the same as what happened with my visual editor though.

Please somebody, help me some more!
Having failed to solve the problems I’ve described that followed the WP upgrade, I went ahead and took everything off the server in order to re-install wordpress and re-upload all the files. I wanted to re-install the older version which had no problems with my theme. But first, the files which seemed to have uploaded properly did not appear on the site. I’ve checked every possible mistake, I’ve deleted and re-uploaded the files countless times and I can’t understand what’s wrong. Now I can’t even install the latest version of wordpress – (after doing the whole re-install process, making new config file, deleting & creating database etc) when I type in mywebsite.com/wp-admin/install.php I get an Error 404, site can’t be found.
Can anyone tell me why this could be?
Is it something to do with the server instead, have I changed something by deleting and uploading again so many times?
Thanks ever so much for your time
