• The paste from word used on older versions was very limited but working.
    Now no more tables?
Wordpress was never good at table editing and using a plugin will result is a system not working without that plugin, not a nice idea.
Unless there is one that just will create the html code in the post.

  • No, the TinyMCE editor was updated to version 4 when WordPress was updated to 3.9. You can now copy from Word and paste directly into your post without using a button.

using a plugin will result is a system not working without that plugin, not a nice idea.

I don’t understand your reasoning here. That’s the entire point of plugins: that you can add features that WordPress doesn’t natively have.

Unless there is one that just will create the html code in the post.

You can always learn how to code HTML tables in the text editor. It’s not terribly difficult, but it takes a bit of practice.

My point was that if I need ONE single basic table searching for a plugin is a waste of time.
So WordPress now has zero (0) way to insert or create a table.
    That is progress.

Copy and paste works. Copy the tables from Excel, paste into visual editor window. Unless your tables are doing something pretty exotic (pivot/frozen), it should paste just fine.

Copy/Paste IS NOT WORKING with Word/Excel 2010, only clean text will pass.
Or I wouldn’t have started this thread.
It was working until the last WP version, html was a bit heavy with Excel so I normally paste the table in Word, the result is not a masterpiece (very ugly table) but it was better than nothing.

searching for a plugin is a waste of time.

Not if you find the one that does what you want.

    Copy/Paste IS NOT WORKING with Word/Excel 2010

It’s not working for you, not for all of us. So there is something unique about your installation that is causing problems. Perhaps a plugin conflict, the way your server is set up, even your Microsoft Office preferences. But without knowing more, it’s impossible to say.

That is interesting, but there is only a seo plugin on the test site so we have to wait for somebody else with the same problem.
Firefox in english and Office 2010 Italian is the rest of my configuration.
I guess that the new editor will not catch the HTML table tags when I import a table………..

Another user that cannot import anymore…
    If I found another one it’s maybe a 3.9 bug…

The problem is that MS Word and Excel are not really meant to be used to produce web content. There are better ways.

You can always report a bug you find in WordPress.

I am having the same problem pasting tables from Word 2010 into WP3.9 I am not into css / html coding and I don’t want to be because I don’t have the inclination or time. I just want to run our village website.

I can paste tables from Word to WP using CtrlV but the table has no vertical or horizontal lines, text size doesn’t paste and most disappointing of all is that all the coloured cells just display as white. On the plus side boldface seems to transfer and thankfully so do the hyperlinks. The new pages just look boring now compared to previously being able to paste all the Word formatting. Here is what I have at present, a page created with the old version of WP

    https://www.kemnay.info/yellow-page/

and this is all I can achieve now

    https://www.kemnay.info/diary-of-events/

and I had to physically change the font size of the headings in WP.

If this is the future for WP then I suppose I will just have to look for a different program to use because frankly I just don’t have time or the inclination to learn css / html coding.

Another option might be to uninstall WP3.9 and reinstall the previous version, I will have to investigate that option. Meantime I dearly wish the WP writers would at least give us the option of being able to paste Word docs into WP

Incidentally I get the same results using both FF and Chrome.

One final point is that when editing a page in WP3.9, the full toolbar area is now far too large. There are 4 lines of buttons as before but now below that is an equal amount of blank unused toolbar space which is so irritating because it takes up space of the editing window below and I have to keep scrolling up and down all the time. I can get around it by using the toolbar toggle but what is the point of this wasted empty toolbar space?

    It’s bug #27909..

Hmm so what do we do, just wait for a fix? Is anyone at WP working on an update?

Yes. Why don’t you follow along here?

Thanks for the link kjodie, I will bookmark the page but a lot of the discussion there is a bit over my head.

As a work around, I now paste from Excel into a Google Drive spreadsheet and then copy and paste from there into WordPress. It of course adds new issues too but it works reasonably OK.
