• Please advise.
I backed up my site and database, proceeded to check each plug-in and its compatibility to WP 3.5. update and activated one at a time. Then activated WP 3.5 upgrade.

The plugins were not activating. Then I got an 505 error.

Now my database won’t let me log in.

    My site is down. Help!
    Stephanie

  • My first step would be to use FTP or your hosts CPanel, and navigate to the “wp-content” directory. Once there, rename the “plugins” folder to something like “plugins-old”.

This should allow you access back into your dashboard… with all your plugins deactivated. Now, go back to your FTP and rename the folder back to “plugins”.

Next, begin re-activating your plugins one at a time. If it breaks again.. you’ll know which plugin is causing issues.

    HI Josh,
    Thanks. I tried that.
I just get Error establishing a database connection.

You tried that? In a minute and a half??

Check your wp-config.php file and verify the database credentials match those created for your database in Cpanel.

EDIT: If you still get the notice with all your plugins deactivated.. then you may need to re-install wordpress.

I tried while waiting for an answer, in panic mode reading the Troubleshooting WordPress 3.5 Master List.

    All credentials look correct.

    Sorry missed this:

Can I re-install without WP 3.5 losing data?

    Not super backend /database savvy.

You can.. but a few things you need to be careful about:

    1. DO NOT remove the “wp-content” directory.
    2. DO NOT remove the “wp-config.php” file.

Aside from that, here are the instructions… quite easy, actually.

Just to be safe… you may want to perform a backup on your files.
