    Site: https://paulmillerrealestate.com

I have two menu items set to links: “Search MLS” and “Avoid Foreclosure.”

In WP-Admin > Links > (link name) > Edit, I have the Target radio button set to “_blank”. However, neither one of those two links will result in a new window when clicked.

Visiting my site, I right-clicked and selected “view source.” Sure enough, when I locate the appropriate menu item, the target="_blank" line is missing.

Is there a bugfix I need to install?

Any suggestions from anyone on this?

I just tested this on my site, and it works fine.

Try turning off your plugins and/or switching to the Twenty Ten theme.

    Hi Ipstenu,

Thank you for the reply! I am currently using the Twenty Ten theme, and only added the child theme yesterday — after this behavior had already began.

I just deactivated all plug-ins (Akismet, SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam, and Top 10), but the problem persists.

I am new to WordPress and web hacking (I would never call what I do “programming!”). Is there some place within one of the theme files that could be the culprit?

    Thanks again,
    Paul

I believe this is a coding issue. What suggestions do you have for editing the header.php file to add target=”_blank” if the menu item is an external link?

This is still unresolved. Does the header.php file perhaps link to an XML file that controls the menu?

Resolved. Under Appearance > Menus, I had to select the “Screen Options” dropdown from the top right-hand side of the screen and placed a check in the box next to Link Target.

Leaving that open, I then selected the Edit Menu Item dropdown for my two menu items set to custom links. Only then did it provide an option called Link Target, from which I was able to select “New window or tab.”

    Good show. Thanks for that.
