• At times when I save a post, the page editor disappears and I can only view what has been written out in HTML. However, once the VISUAL button is pressed I can no longer access the editor unless the page is refreshed. Also pressing the HTML button again does not work either. I simply cannot see the post.

The only way to get the HTML back is to refresh the page, yet this still doesn’t allow me access the Visual Editor. The only option is to delete the post and copy the HTML into a fresh page and resubmit it.

Also all the previous saved posts are not accessible.

This is the 2nd time this has now happened since upgrading to WP 2.7. It does this after pressing the SAVE post button.

WordPress was upgraded using INSTANT UPGRADE plugin.

I hope there is a fix for this. Thanks.

  • natarem: I did all what you said, but the problem is still there!

I did all those things and it did not work. I had to temporarily disable my pop-up blocker that was within my personal firewall to get my visual editor to work

    natarem,

When you say delete your entire wp-includes/js/ directory. Then repopulate it. Do you actually mean delete everything within the js folder first, and then upload a fresh copy of these js folder files? I don’t know too much about these technical things, and I just want to make sure that it doesn’t break anything within WordPress. My js folder seems to contain all the same files. So I am not sure if this will work.

I appreciate you spending the time to help others resolve this issue.

On another note, I utilize a plugin called “Instant Upgrade” to install new versions of WordPress. I am curious to know if this plugin could be the cause of this error. Is anyone experiencing this error while having manually upgrading WordPress? It would be interesting to find out.

    IQmatrix:

Go download the .zip file from the official WordPress download site and unzip it.

Delete all the files in the wp-includes/js/ directory, and re-send the files up via FTP. I have heard other people state that the automatic upgrader plugins had problems

Also, disable the automatic upgrader plugins before doing this.

    shimshon,

Open up your firefox error console, clear and then do a Ctrl+F5 refresh. Let me know what shows up there.

    presto,

Yea, pop up blockers could cause a problem I suppose, although I am not sure how.

    iq,

The autoupgrader could easily have been subject to the same problems as manual upgraders. Therefore, I would recommend deactivating it and doing a manual upgrade (which is very simple, there are instructions on this site for that).

    2 steps:
    TinyMCE Advanced (off)
“Disable the visual editor when writing” (off)

    Eureka!

Natarem, I did all that. when I do the ctrl+F5 it refresh the site and goes back to the html editot – visual doesn’t work!

I’ve confirmed on my install, that I can disable both “cforms” and “All in One SEO Pack” plugins and everything works as it should. Enabling either seems to cause mine to stop working.

I know that cforms installs its own button into the editor… does “All in One SEO Pack” do that also? Maybe it’s a problem with that?

It appears to be a cache issue. I had the same problem using FireFox, hit Ctrl + F5 to clear the cache and problem solved!

I quite tried every thing listed here, but none of them worked. disabeling plugins, clearing cache… anyone other ideas?

2.7 had me, a grown woman, in tears. My solution was to call my webhost and, thank God, he was able to retrieve 2.6.2 for me. The problems with 2.7: couldn’t get Dashboard off editing screen, plus all the little boxes they tell you to collapse & move — much easier said than done. The Dashboard won’t go away and the other boxes keep popping back to their original positions and it’s a nuisance beyond endurance.
Even when I finally cleared a space to actually see the draft I wanted to edit, none of the buttons worked, so I had nothing plus nobody to give any help.
Until it works better, I want no part of 2.7
Why can’t WordPress give us user support? I’d pay for it!

Downgrading to 2.6.5 might be a good temporary option.. The problem with my case is that I have made some modifications to wordpress to make a kind-of-bridge with PHPBB.

Is there any solution to this problem? I tried everything discussed here but nothing works for me.
Maybe some solution from WordPress people?

    Thanks

    Shimshon9,

Personally, I also haven’t been able to resolve the issue. Through trial and error I found out the HeadSpace2 was causing the problems. When I deactivate this plugin everything works fine. However, for some reason after I deleted the JS directory and then re-populated it again, the editor buttons are no longer displaying any images. The buttons are there, however the icons representing these buttons are blank. I therefore must scroll over each button to determine what it represents.

I really don’t know what else to say. I am hoping that WordPress will bring out a new version which will hopefully fix these issues.

I have many installations of WP on my server (various blogs) – only one has this problem. I’ve tried re-uploading js directory, clearing caches, deactivating / reactivating option to use visual editor, and removing all plug-ins (by renaming the plugins directory). I still get no visual editor when using Firefox. It does appear when using Internet Explorer.

The FireFox error console says this (and I definately have that file in that location because I pasted the URL and saw the file):

    Error: tinyMCE is undefined
    Source File: https://www....../wp-includes/js/tinymce/langs/wp-langs-en.js?ver=20081129
    Line: 1

    ~Andrew~
