• I’m sure people worked very hard designing the new Widget admin interface for WordPress 2.5 – and I really don’t like criticizing someone else’s work. But I don’t understand the thought process here.

A perfectly functional (and very simple) interface was completely abandoned in favor of a very busy, very dysfunctional interface.

    The rest:

  • I think a big thank you would go out to whoever could give us the old style, user friendly, working admin area back…

    Agree. older was better.

Oh boy.. I’ve been googling trying to find out HOW on earth to move a widget from one column to another in 2.5 This is a pretty awful interface. The old one was so much better. I hope someone comes out with a plugin that’ll make it like 2.3 and earlier.

How do you move widgets from sidebar to sidebar?

How do you move widgets from sidebar to sidebar?

click on the left side..choose your widget

click on the right side –if this is a text widget – safe your text and code and so on

    click safe
    click safe

scroll up choose the next sidebar

    click safe

click at the left side to choose your widget

click on the right side to copy and paste your code and text from the text widget

    click safe
    click safe

    thats it – ;);)

I have one and two and thousands blinks in my eyes, but this above is the new way to move one widget from “sidebar one” to “sidebar two”

drag and drop is now not usability enough ;);)

    scnr

I agree with everyone else in here, this 2.5 widget interface is a HUGE step down from 2.3.

So we gained multiple text/rss instances, that’s fine. But we LOST the ability to MOVE TEXT/RSS WIDGETS FROM ONE SIDEBAR TO ANOTHER. This is huge! Now you have to open a second window, copy and paste your data. Very annoying. Before it was as simple as drag and drop! I can’t BELIEVE this is now gone forever.

Please can someone develop a plugin that replaces the new widget interface with the old one?

Everyone should go vote and voice their support there.

I agree. I’ve got a couple of widgets that no longer work in 2.5, the broken widgets are causing my blog to load SLOWLY and I can’t remove them! Ugh! The new widget interface should have been tested before being released.

Well, here’s something. I just tried removing widgets using Firefox – that works. Using IE 6 does not work.

Yep, I found several widgets including the Text one won’t work with IE 6.

how to get version 2.3.3 back on my blog?

Theres a great guide to this here

This assumes you made a database backup prior to installing 2.5

Also would recomend doing a second back up of the 2.5 database before attempting to reinstall the old one. Just in case…

I wish there could be some happy medium between both the 2.3 and 2.5 interfaces. I like that we can have many sidebars and it doesn’t clutter up the page. But I HATE that drag and drop is gone, and that it’s far more tedious to move widget from one sidebar to another.

Some free-thinking designer needs to come up with a new interface concept!

I absolute can’t stand the new interface. So far I’ve found nothing better about it.

WTF did you guys do!? This is horrible! Where are all my dashboard admin options? Now i’ve got settings, plugins and users?!

And how am I supposed to disable plugins now? Don’t say “click disable” because that does not work. And I don’t want to delete them out of the folder. I want to disable them. That’s the point of the word disable.

Nice going. Way to fuck up everything.

I like it. I found it easy to use. Then again, I was raised back when grownups expected you to do it right, and to think about what you were doing. Which makes me evil of course :eg:

The rest of admin is just as easy. I suspect somebody who’s worked on the Mac interface had something to do with it. We are, after all, supposed to be blogging, not struggling through the Amazonian rain forest as botfly maggots eat through our hope for progeny.
