    Hi

Just tried doing the automatic update – none of the Apache setups work, possibly because my site doesn’t have a php.ini file.

If I create one manually, this results in a blank white screen when loading the site (either public side or admin view…)

    Using php5.2

    Any suggestions?

So… 3 weeks and no reply.

I take it wordfence doesn’t do support then…

    Hello peakimages,
some hosts have special restrictions set that prevent configuration of the Firewall. It is also possible that some necessary functionality is missing in your PHP version.

If you want help debugging you can first check your servers error logs and in case you find something there share them here so we can help you analyze them. Feel free to remove identifying information (like domain name) from them first if you like.

    (Sorry, duplicate response.)

peakimages, I’m adding some suggestions here that I received from a coworker.

You can use the firewall without a separate php.ini file. It’s likely that your site is using CGI/FastCGI, which uses a “.user.ini” file, which most hosts do support, but this file wasn’t introduced until PHP 5.3. If you can use a newer version of PHP, the firewall can be fully enabled — many hosts allow you to choose a PHP version in their control panel, but on some hosts, you might have to ask for them to change it for you.

Though PHP 5.3 will work, the makers of PHP are only doing bug fixes and security releases for 5.5 and newer, so I’d recommend a newer version if possible. (5.5 or 5.6 will probably give you better compatibility with some other plugins as well.)

Many thanks both – and a late reply is always better than no reply ??

Updated to 5.5, hadn’t realised I’d need to do that – assumed that I’d just be on the latest version that my hosting provider would support and it would be up to them to update that…

    Now updated successfully – thanks!
