After uninstalling Wordfence I’m left with wordfence-waf.php in root. If I delete this file my site stops running.

    What is going on?

    Hi @mrzimmy,

Instructions on fully removing the firewall files can be found here at the end of the page:
    Uninstalling the Firewall Files

One way is by using the plugin’s uninstall procedure, and the other way is a manual process that you can use if the plugin isn’t currently installed. (Which method you need to use in the manual uninstallation depends on the host’s server configuration.)
