Over the last week, all of my WordPress sites have exhibited this behavior. The Two Factor Authentication (2FA) feature of Wordfence stopped working and has caused the sites to revert to standard Username and Password login. Curiously, the WF settings section for Login Security no longer accepts changes to almost all key options. At first, prior to noticing this behavior on all my sites, I thought it was a plugin conflict or a hack. I contacted the VPS hosting company to query them whether there was a change made to the hosting instances. They said nothing has changed. Has there been a change to the WF plugin that may be responsible for this behavior.

  • I also have problems with 2FA.
Server time and browser time are ok but it seems NTP check fails to detect the correct time:

    Server Time: 2019-09-19 07:39:16 UTC (2019-09-19 09:39:16 Europe/Rome)
    Browser Time: Thu, 19 Sep 2019 07:39:17 GMT (Thu Sep 19 2019 09:39:17 GMT+0200 (CEST))
    Corrected Time (NTP): 2019-09-18 23:46:14 UTC (2019-09-19 01:46:14 Europe/Rome)

    Thank you

Thanks for your post here. I can see where a time error could cause a problem with the 2FA feature. However I have been successful at implementing other 2FA plugins that seem to work fine working in conjunction with WF Security. I’m hoping for additional input here from others in the community who may be experiencing the same problems. The fact that all of my WP sites are experiencing this behavior tells me there is a possible issue with either my VPN host, the plugin or a recent possible automatic update the WP core.

    Hey @empirewebsites,

When trying to change the settings in Login Security can you check your browser console for any errors?

Did you get a chance to check for the plugin conflict?

@mumu9 – Can you please start a new thread per the forum guidelines? Your issue is going to be different from the original poster.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hey @empirewebsites,

Since we haven’t heard back from you I am assuming that the instructions solved your issue so I am marking this topic as resolved.

If however, for whatever reason, you are still experiencing this issue and it is not resolved please respond to the post, and mark this topic as “not resolved”.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald
