    Hello,

When I run a wordfence scan, I get the following error:
    “Scan Failed.
The scan has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself.”

    Have an idea ?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Check the Connectivity section on the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostic page. If you see errors, screenshot them and paste a link here. What might be happening is that the hosting provider has blocked outbound curl requests and you can ask them to unblock that. There also could be a problem where the server doesn’t recognize it’s own url and thus can’t connect back to start the scan. Try ‘Start Scans Remotely’ on the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostic page in the troubleshooting section to see if that helps.

    Hello,
no errors in the Diagnostics page. I activated and started the scan remotely but without success. Apparently during a scan, the status check of the server goes well but hangs when checking for file changes. I have the same problem on 2 different sites that use 2 different hosts. I will see with them for blocking queries but I doubt.

    Hello,

    Sorry I do a bad resquest… I try again and I find 2 errors :

    – Checking OpenSSL version
    OpenSSL 0.9.8o 01 Jun 2010 (0x9080ff)

    – Connecting to Wordfence servers (https)
wp_remote_post() test to noc1.wordfence.com failed! Response was: cURL error 35: Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to noc1.wordfence.com:443

    How fix it ?

    Fred

We recently had to update the software on our servers due to compliance which means we had to stop supporting some older SSL ciphers. What is happening here is that your site is trying to connect to Wordfence servers but failing because the connection method your server is using is too old.

What needs to be updated is curl and OpenSSL. This should be updated not only for the functionality of Wordfence and your SSL connections, but for the security of your site in general as well.

If you are not hosting the site yourself you will need to reach out to your host and ask them to update curl. You can include everything I have told you above as it may help them understand the issue.

I’m very sorry for the inconvenience and I hope your host can help you get this resolved.

    Hello,
I contacted my host and I passed my PHP status “Legacy” to the status of “Stable”. Everything is ok now.
    Regards.
