    Hello,

I installed WordFence plugin on a fresh install on MAMP with no new theme or new plugin. Only WordFence is installed. Once I try to enable the plugin, everything is very very slow : back-office and front-end, between 40 and 60 seconds to open a page.

I tried different PHP versions, different WordPress versions, different plugin versions, I made sure every setting on MAMP is at least at the minimum required, but everything is still very very slow.

When I shut down internet connection, websites works fine even with the plugin enabled.

Is there any issue by your side ? When plugin is enabled is it looking for something on your servers that is slowing the website ? I am using the plugin for many years now I never had this issue before.

Hi @rajaat, thanks for getting in touch.

MAMP isn’t where we’d normally expect the plugin to be run, but it’s unix-like enough that it generally should be able to work in that kind of environment.

The site is most likely trying and failing to get its initial set of WAF rules until timeout and trying again on every hit which is why the pages are taking a long time. That usually means the site can’t make outbound connections, or it is having trouble writing to its own files, particularly wp-content/wflogs/

Checking the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page for connection issues would help show if that’s the case, and then if it’s connecting normally, check sizes/dates of the WAF files. Enabling error logs might also help, depending on the cause.

Let me know what you find out!

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks a lot for your feedback! So I tried again today and everything seems to work normally, no more slowing down, bo & front are displayed the way they should very quickly with the plugin enabled.

Thanks again for your support & good luck!

    Stay safe!
