I hava a website using wordpress and about 6 Plugins including Wordfence. Once i installed wordfence it works well for about 1 Week. Then it disappears from the plugin site. The files are still visible in ftp but i can’t reinstall the plugin from the backend until i deleted all the wordfence plugin files. When i reinstalled it the settings are the same like i configured them before and it works again. What can i do stop it from disappearing?

(Sorry for my bad english ?? )

  • When you install it are you able to run a scan?

Yes i am! It checks everyhing finishs normal. There are also no “important” issues (just that some files have changed because im using german translations)

I just have a feeling that something is weird with your server or database. Are your Apache servers load balanced between multiple servers?

I just noticed the same issue this morning. The wordfence does not show up in my plugin list anymore, and when I try to install it again, it fails – Destination folder already exists.

I have multiple sites running the package, they are still working fine after updates, but this one site site, it disappeared from the plugin page.

I know enough to be dangerous with WordPress, but learning.

LOL That’s all of us ??

Ask your hosting provider about the issue. I’d explain exactly what you are seeing. The only thing I have ever had close to that was when I missed a server out of 5 load balanced servers when installing the plugin. Let me know what they say.

This just happened to me. Using Wordfence for a year now, pay for the premium version. Went to the Network Plugins page to add one and got an error about Wordfence being missing. Checked on the server and sure enough, files are gone. Was working earlier today and I haven’t been in the sites or touched anything.

The server is a Digital Ocean droplet I manage myself, definitely not a hosting issues.

Hmm. I notice you just updated it about 8 hours ago. I reinstalled and all my settings are still there. Looks like something in your update process erased the files. I don’t (and didn’t) have auto-updates enabled.

Same exact issue (posted on another thread as well). Would love to know what is going on!

When I activate it nothing shows up, no menu for the plugin. In view source there are two wordfence script things in HEAD of wp-admin, but no menu items, links, etc

@patung Are you looking in the network plugins screen?

    Have paid version too.
    two things I notice.

    – the plugin just disappears from server alltogether
this error is shown in dashboard:
The plugin wordfence/wordfence.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

    – upon hitting the site first, sometimes blank screen, shows after refresh

    Premium support is at support.wordfence.com

In your case I would advise, removing the plugin folder completely via ftp, and reinstalling from scratch.

yes sorry didn’t look there, it works…

I have the same issue. I’m using the free version, have been since the site went live early this year.

Today I was working on the site and got this error message:
The plugin wordfence/wordfence.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

Checked my plugin list, WordFence was gone. Looked in GoDaddy and the WordFence folder was completely gone from the plugins folder.

Reinstalled WordFence and surprisingly it has all my customized options. The only difference is that these files are now whitelisted and they were not before:
    Whitelisted 404 URLs:
    /favicon.ico
    /apple-touch-icon*.png
    /*@2x.png
Any idea why these would have been added in the new install? I’m slightly worried about keeping them since I didn’t add them.

Seems very strange to me that a folder could just completely disappear. I just checked all my other sites (about 10) and the WordFence folder is still there in all of them.

asaracena: The 3 new whitelisted 404 URLs are standard in the latest version of Wordfence, so those are ok. If you had automatic updates turned on, there is a very small chance that your host’s server restarted during a plugin update (or part of it crashed without a full restart), which could cause the update to fail. If the server has a short timeout, it could also cause an update to fail. The Wordfence options are stored in your WordPress database, so they do normally come back when reinstalling.

To be safe, I would run a manual scan with Wordfence, to make sure nothing unusual comes up.

If you have any more issues on this topic, can you create a new post? This keeps in line with the www.remarpro.com forum rules, and also helps us keep track of open and resolved issues. Thanks!
