Hello,

I use a plugin called WP Pusher to push updated plugins to a bunch of sites that I manage.

I find that usually when a webhook fires it doesn’t go through, and I have to manually log into the sites individually, and manually click “update” from the WP Pusher settings.

When I go into the webhook settings on my GitHub account, I see that all the push attempts have the 403 response code. When I look into this further I see:

403 Forbidden

A potentially unsafe operation has been detected in your request to this site.

Are you able to help me with this? Many thanks for your time!

  • @smes,

Try switching to “Learning Mode” for a few days.

    Hi @smes

If that was a firewall related issue, then switching the Firewall into “Learning Mode” will definitely allow your request.

    Keep us updated!

    Thanks.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

I will try your suggestion when I next run my batch of updates.

    A couple of follow-up questions:

    – While the site is in learning mode, is it any less secure than it normally would be? ie, are there risks associated with learning mode?

    – Is there no way to manually whitelist something to allow this through?

    Many thanks for your time,

    smes

    Hi smes,

    – Yes there is a risk, some requests might get whitelisted in learning mode while they shouldn’t, and you must not enable learning mode if your website was recently hacked or currently under attack. Please read “How to Use Learning Mode” section carefully.

    – You can whitelist the request manually if you know the exact URL/parameters that needs to be whitelisted in “Wordfence > Firewall > Firewall Options > Whitelisted URLs > Add Whitelisted URL/Param”.

    Thanks.
