Hi, I have Wordfence 6.0.22 running on WordPress 4.4.

I can’t get the firewall working. I check and save “Enable firewall”, but if I refresh /wp-admin/admin.php?page=WordfenceSecOpt it goes back to being unchecked!

On the IP Blocking page, I see:

Firewall is disabled. You can enable it on the Wordfence Options page at the top.

I’m here because it seems that I’m currently under attack with lots of bad login attempts (which is somehow getting around my .htpasswd rules on the admin panel). Turns out, the Firewall doesn’t seem to be doing its job!

Can anyone help diagnose why it wouldn’t save? Maybe a file permissions issue or something? I’m running nginx + php5-fpm on Ubuntu Linux.

Check the Java script console for errors in your browser when you enable the Firewall. Here are a couple of helpful links:

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

Absolutely nothing is happening in the console. Other settings (such as the email address for alerts) save. This checkbox doesn’t though!

Same behavior in both Firefox and Chrome.

Is there a way to enable it in the database?

Try removing Wordfence and table data and then do a clean install again. That will recreate all of the database tables with the correct permissions.

Actually simply deactivating / deleting / re-installing / activating the plugin worked! After activating, the firewall was enabled and seems to be working. This will definitely help on this site…

Hi,
I use the thrive content builder for updating content. Suddenly it could not save changes anymore. It turned out that the new Wordfence firewall was causing the problem and that I could have solved that by putting the firewall in learning mode first.
But how could I have known that Wordfence was causing the problem?
